David Battersby OBE – Founding Director, Hospitality and Leisure Manpower (HALM)

David's career over 50 years has seen him contribute to the work of many employer associations, professional bodies, tourist boards, government agencies and the media to raise standards of education and training across the hospitality and tourism industry, achievements recognised in 1998 when he was made an OBE.

David has devised and managed a number of skill competitions and award schemes for the hospitality industry, including the ‘Young Chef and Waiter of the Year’; ‘Hospitality World Skills’; the ‘Hospitality Apprenticeship Awards’ and ‘Business Excellence Awards’. For over 35 years he has managed the ‘Roux Scholarship’ for Michel and Albert Roux, and in 2012 helped found, and became organiser of, ‘The Gold Service Scholarship’, with Her Majesty the Queen becoming its first Patron. David is now Secretary to the Trustees of The Gold Service Foundation.

As an Ambassador for Tourism for All David looks forward to helping make access to travel and accommodation more widely available to those with disabilities.

Bernard Donaghue

Bernard Donoghue – Director, Association of Leading Visitor Attractions (ALVA)

Bernard is the Director of the Association of Leading Visitor Attractions (ALVA), a membership organisation comprising the majority of Britain’s best known museums, galleries, castles, palaces, cathedrals, heritage sites, historic houses, zoos, gardens and leisure attractions, attracting more than 12 million visitors per month.

Bernard is also the Mayor of London's Ambassador for Cultural Tourism, a Trustee of the People's History Museum, Chair of the World WildLife Fund UK’s Council of Ambassadors and Chair of the London Board of Directors of the London International Festival of Theatre.

Bernard has had a long career in tourism, including positions as Head of Government and Public Affairs at VisitBritain and as Chairman of the Tourism Alliance.

Bernard says “I am delighted and honoured to be asked to be an Ambassador for Tourism for All. I want to play my part in championing tourism's inclusivity and accessibility.”

Robin S

Robin Sheppard – Chairman, Bespoke Hotels Limited

Robin is the Chairman of Bespoke Hotels Limited and is currently the Chairman of the Institute of Hospitality.

Robin has been an hotelier for over 40 years, winning many Hotel/Hotelier of the Year awards. He co-founded Bespoke Hotels in 2000 and the group now has over 200 properties, including the multi-award winning Hotel Gotham. Most recently, he won the Hotel Catey and the Oxford Brookes awards for Outstanding Contribution to the Hospitality Industry. Robin’s greatest achievement, though, has been to fight back from GBS, a totally paralysing illness. His slow recovery inspired him to launch the Bespoke Access Awards, in conjunction with RIBA, encouraging better design empathy from architects, interior designers and hospitality professionals alike.

Robin is also the Government’s Hospitality Sector Champion for Disabled People and an Ambassador and evangelist for Tourism for All.

Tom S

Tom Shakespeare – Academic and Broadcaster

Tom Shakespeare is a campaigner for disability rights, a writer on disability, genetics and bio-ethics and Professor of Disability Research at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine.

He has worked as a research fellow at both Newcastle University and Leeds University, and has co-authored or edited a number of books and reports including The Sexual Politics of Disability, Disability Rights and Wrongs and Arguing About Disability. He has worked for the World Health Organization in Geneva where he was coauthor and coeditor of the 2011 World Report on Disability. He served as a member of the Arts Council of England between 2003 and 2008.

In his research and advocacy roles Tom has travelled widely and, as a wheelchair user, has met various barriers, both natural and man-made, but says that he has usually found a solution through goodwill and negotiation – and a bit of crawling. As an Ambassador he plans to support Tourism for All in any way that he can to make accessible tourism and travel better. Tom was appointed Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE) in the 2021 Birthday Honours for services to disability research.

Jeanette Ramsden

Jeanette Ramsden - Chief Executive, The Curve Group

Jeanette Ramsden is CEO and co-founder of The Curve Group, an award-winning HR and Recruitment Outsourcing and Consulting firm, established in 2004. As a values-led business, all of The Curve Group’s services have diversity and inclusion at the core and the company is recognised as champions in this space

Before founding The Curve Group, Jeannette was HR Director for a leading BPO provider within Deloitte and was part of the Board responsible for a successful sale of the business to a Venture Capitalist.

As an Ambassador for Tourism for All, Jeanette will be championing the importance of inclusivity, equality and accessibility for all in tourism.

Mark Lewis - Chief Executive, Hospitality Action

Mark Lewis is the Chief Executive of Hospitality Action (HA), the UK hospitality industry’s charity, which provides support and assistance to people who work, or have worked, within hospitality and who find themselves in crisis.

Mark moved to Hospitality Action A from The Caterer magazine, the leading title for the hospitality industry, where he worked for fourteen years, first as editor and then as publisher. For twelve years prior to joining HA, Mark was a trustee of the charity. Before embarking upon a career in journalism, Mark spent a decade as a travel writer, writing Rough Guides to Singapore, Malaysia and Vietnam and contributing articles to the Mail on Sunday and Independent on Sunday.
